        THE LOST VINTAGE

Rupert wington a common man in his late 30’s living in urban but with its roots in rural. Vandoi, the village from where Rupert belonged. He was born there and brought up in cities for education and settlement. The vandoi village was unique and special from others. Though all villages are special but in vandoi something’s were different. The story of vandoi started two generations before rupert. It starts from rupert’s grandfather Mr. peter wington. He was the one who lead to the formation of this kind of unique village. He was a collector by profession and farmer by passion.

Once he went on a visit to the places were only few people were living. It was like nucleus in an atom. Peter went there and got the whole visit of village. At that time the village was not much known, there was no particular name of the village. It was generally addressed by nearby places. When he finished the visit he fell in love with that village in first sight. After getting all the knowledge of that place peter decided to move there with his family and a small committee. On going there and before starting settlement he sow some seeds. And out of that one seed germinated.

As peter was nature lover he found himself much attached to the nature and the growing plant. He made the whole village full of greenery with the help of people living there. He named the village as “vandoi” because he was having a good knowledge in the ancient and respected Sanskrit literature. In Sanskrit ‘van’ means forest which refers to nature and simplicity of life.

The tree grown by peter was itself named as vandoi.  As  this tree grows the village prosperous. The growth was in all fonts. The much the tree grows the much the village prosperous with wealth, happiness, cherishes. The people from different places start inhibiting here. The whole village was popular by that tree. The people there started worshiping the tree. It was magical and completed all the wishes of the people there. For them tree was at the position of god. The tree was that much enormous that people used to keep the meetings get to gathers etc there. It was heart of the village.

By this time Fedrick wington, Son of Mr.peter wington was born. Fedrick was also just like his father. Kind, nature loving, cherish etc. the whole childhood of fedrick was spent in vandoi. There was one more unique thing. As humans have their own house the tree was also having its own house by its side. The barks of tree and some prop roots gave the shape of a house. The people there and wington family noticed this and made the house worth a visit. The house was so cool. The breeze there just make you feel like heaven. There was a swing in there where  everyone used to spent their time. A good fresh water supply, herbs and shrubs etc. that surrounding place was not less than heaven.  Fedrick was also brought up in all these. The whole wington family was much attached to vandoi tree. but as the generation changed many things changed. Urbanization increased people from nearby villages  started migrating in cities. This thing was not observed in this village till now. But it was only till then. A very small amount of people started migrating like 5 person a year. But for tree this was not a thing to happen. Wington family was having connections with the tree. They got to know that tree was felling sad. As one person leave the house one leaf of tree turns yellow and fall down. Years spent and the number increased to 15. By this time rupert wington was born. Rupert was brought up all by this tree. It was having emotional connections with the tree. Tree thought himself as the best friend and another father of rupert. He used to spend his all day near the tree and the tree house. By this time Mr. peter wington was no more. Rupert and whole wington family along with vandoi tree was sorrow.

As years passed many people leaved the village in greed of more money, facilities, improved life style forgetting that they are having the best lifestyle one could ever have.

The situation got worse and the greed took people of. This was what we call as generation gap. The youth was not understanding the power were they live. Rupert was turning to adult at that time and have to complete his further education and have to settle. Fedrick was in worry for his son for his education as he was one and only son of him. He wanted to have rupert live the best life. Fedrick was different than other parents. By knowing the situation at that time, fedrick also came in greed for his son to have him best life in city. rupert did not wanted to go.  But the peer pressure made him to do so.

He visited the tree and said him goodbye with tears running down. After meeting him he went to urban areas along with his family.

He completed his studies, settled there and started a family. His dad died soon (after 5-6 years) after going to city area due to changed environment, eating habits and polluted environment etc.  He was having a beautiful wife named Lisa who supported her in every work rupert does. After 20 years rupert  got a dream of the  tree that the tree was calling him. Without wasting a time rupert and his wife went to vandoi. He reached there and saw that the whole village was a disaster no people were living there. It was just like the situation before the formation of the village. Rupert went to the tree. Only few leaves turning yellow were there on the tree and it was in his final moments. The last thing tree conveyed was “I tried my best to save all this but couldn’t, now its my time to go and get release from all this.” By completing this the few leaves also fall off. Ruperts eyes turned red and full of regrets. He than saw the tree house, house was there but lifeless. He set there and told everything to his wife. During that time rupert saw some seeds lying down near  that tree. A hope was seen. He sowed that seeds and after some days it germinated. A hope of positivness took birth. Happiness took birth. From that day rupert decided to live there only and give the shining and respect to the village back.
